Every month, millions of young girls around the world face a significant barrier to their education — period poverty. This term refers to the lack of access to sanitary products, hygiene facilities, and education about menstruation. In many communities, especially those struggling with poverty, sanitary products are considered a luxury rather than
a necessity. As a result, young girls miss several days of school each month, leading to significant gaps in their education and negatively impacting their academic performance and future opportunities.
Recognizing this urgent need, Open Hands decided to take action by supplying girls in local schools with reusable sanitary pads. By providing these reusable pads, Open Hands is not only offering a practical solution to a pressing problem but also promoting sustainability and dignity.
Through our partnership with Open Hands, who are based in Kloof, South Africa, these girls no longer have to choose between their education or their period, helping to empower the next generation of women to thrive.
